A question concerning Proposition 8?

Spiritually speaking, what happened to those good ole' unalienable rights? Life, Liberty, and THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS. Since when did these guidelines apply only to the heteroual Americans? What happened to "all men are created equal"? Where in the Declaration of Independence did it say "except gays"? I don't remember hearing about this in school. Could it be because it's not there. Why are we trying to legislate morals in our great country. Don't we have more important things to worry about than taking away the rights of American citizens who have (probably up until now) as much love for this country as any other? What happened?
