I think the secret is lies in their style of respectful practicality. Have you ever seen one of the press conferences where the Queen appears with the Prime Minister? I saw one during a visit to the USA some years ago. I was amazed at the way the two of them tag teamed answering at the podium. The Queen knew exactly when to defer political questions to the P.M. and the respect was so amazingly mutual. She did not appear at all aloof and was totally warm and personable.
